Friday (today), the Without Walls X Border Art Show opens at the Studio Door. Gypsy-jazz artist Tatania Eva-Marie will perform two shows at the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla. The Adama Bilorou Trio will perform at UC San Diego Park & Market. Comedian Giulio Gallarotti will be at Mic Drop Comedy for two shows.

Saturday, the Chinese Historical Museum will host an online streaming talk on The Literati Influence on Contemporary Chinese Art. At the Central Library, the Culinary Historians of San Diego will present Columbian Exchange: the Positives, with Barbara Baxter. There will be a German Bilingual Storytime at the Poway Library. At Broken Yolk Cafe, Heather Morris will discuss her historical novel Sisters Under the Rising Sun. The San Diego Museum of Art will host a Korea in Color Celebration for their ongoing exhibition of Korean art. At the La Mesa Library, the Center for World Music will present a Latin American Music & Beyond performance featuring musicians Luisa Corredor, Ignacio Arango, and Harley Magsino. North the Musical will be performed at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. The Persian music band Dustless Ocean will perform at the Iranian American Center. Latin bands Ozomatli & SM Familia will perform at Music Box. The Digital Gym will screen the film The Fifth Cord.

Sunday, the will be a Hungarian Mask Making Workshop at the House of Hungary in Balboa Park. Erik Dikerson will perform on Baroque lute at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center. At The Loft, Jake Blount will talk about the African roots of the banjo and the ways African Americans have shaped and defined the amorphous categories of roots music and American.

Monday, Y La Bamba, Cancamusa and La Cosecha Internacional will perform at the Casbah.

Tuesday, Warwick's will host Vanessa Miller as she discusses her new book, The American Queen. The Digital Gym will screen the anime film Cowboy Bebop. In the evening, Warwick's will host Soo Jin Lee and Linda Yoon as they discuss and sign their new book, Where I Belong: Healing Trauma and Embracing Asian American Identity.

Next Thursday, there will be a DIY Chinese Zodiac Dragon Puppet Craft session at the Rancho Penasquitos Library. At the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park, there will be a Taste of Kyoto Crafts and Food event featuring a viewing of Japanese traditional and modern crafts as well as some tasty delights from by Chef Ozasa and Chef Kimura to enjoy. At the JCC, author Natasha Lance Rogoff will talk about her real-life experiences on the set of Sesame Street in Russia. The Crazy Woke Asians show returns to Mic Drop Comedy in Clairemont Mesa.

Next Friday, the Beyond Van Gogh: An Immersive Experience returns to the Del Mar Fairgrounds. We saw it last time it was here; it was mighty impressive. The Digital Gym will screen The Magic Hummingbird (El Colibrí Mágico), a modern retelling of Saint Francis set on the San Diego/Tijuana border. Mexican regional Guerrero and Michoacan band Puro Tierra Caliente will play at the Pure Lounge and Grill.

Next Saturday, there will be a Australia Day Celebration at Liberty Station. The Comic Con Museum will screen their new film Lumpia with a Vengence. Atop the parking structure at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, they will screen Mama Mia! At the Chinese Historical Museum, a number of story-tellers will spin yarns about the Year of the Dragon. At UCSD, there will be a The Ramayan Musical Show will colorful costumes, dancing and music celebrating the Indian classic of literature. At the JCC, the play The Jewish Dog offers a view of the Holocaust through the eyes of a canine fascinated by human affairs. At the Digital Gym, the San Diego Italian Film Festival will screen the film Io la Conoscevo Bene (I Knew Her Well). Winner of the 2023 Pulitzer Prize, the Obie Award, and the Lucille Lortel Award, the play English will open at the Old Globe. At St Paul's Cathedral and Episcopal Church, UCSD lecturer and musician Takae Ohnishi will perform French harpsichord music. Latino band La Santa Cecilia will play at the Music Box.

Next Sunday at the North University Community Library, there will be a Bilingual Mandarin Lunar New Year Storytime & Lion Dance event. At the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Escondido, the House of Ukraine will perform traditional music and dance numbers. At the Mission Valley Library, local author Clay Hoffman will speak on The Irish Brigade of the Civil War. At the Iranian American Center, the film A Dragon Arrives! will be shown and there will be a discussion after the film.

Local theatrical productions include Junior Theatre's Tomás & the Library Lady at Balboa Park, The Crucible at Lamplighters Community Theatre in La Mesa, English at the Old Globe, and Intimate Apparel at the North Coast Rep.

CD of the Month


Our International CD of the Month is Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa by Jeremy Dutcher. The debut album by Canadian composer and tenor, Jeremy Dutcher – mixes post-classical rearrangement of his Wolastoq First Nation traditional music from 1907 of his ancestors singing forgotten songs and stories. The album is his contribution to his heritage and community in attempts to revitalize the Wolastoq language to the world, which has less than 100 speakers alive today.—Amazon
